The fabulous girl's guide to free books

Hey - how would you like a free book? I have more books than I have shelves..I even have two and three copies of some of the same books.

Lately, I've seen agents post contests for awarding free books -- and I've seen authors of books do the same (their own books they wrote usually).

I, however - am neither agent nor author (published). Nevertheless, the rules are mine for the making and the books are mine for the giving .. so here goes. The good news -- you don't have to 'follow' me. And -- you don't have to post about this on your blog. Neato, right?!
Facts:

1. Contest ends a week from tonite at midnight. I probably will not be awake in case you are wondering. However, the next morning (next Tuesday morning), I will awaken to see if anyone entered - and I shall exclaim with glee if even one solitary soul has so partaken of the chance(s) herein.

2. Next Tuesday (sometime .. I do have a day job you know.. or maybe you don't know), I will announce the winner of each of the books (if enough commenters have chosen to enter).

3. The prize equals one book per person. I cannot offer a free kindle or a week's vacation in the Bahamas or a critique of a query letter, or even the first 20 pages of any manuscript - alas and alak - because:
a) I am not rich (impecunious .. word of the day .. look it up)
b) I am not even close to rich and
c) I am not an agent - nor an author (yet). I am simply a girl with some books to share.

4. If you want one of these books, here's what to do:
a) tell me you want to win
b) tell me how I can contact you if you do win
c) tell me the specific book (of the ones pictured) you want and why
d) get bonus points if (and only if) you also tell me which one of the thousands (ok, dozens) of posts you like best out of my series, a thousand posts to read before you die
e) and finally ... a double bonus (or bolus) of points if you tell me why you like whichever of the thousands that you picked for (d) above.

5. Basically, the winners will quite simply have moved me (more than anyone else) to the point of granting them one of my valued treasures.

Books. Gems. The written word. To read, to hold, to share, to give, to remember, to not 'delete.'

Forever, I remain ...

Kindle free.

P.s. You may enter as many times as you wish - but with different prose please for each entry.

a) I would really, really love to win a book from your blog because we need to help each other with our book addictions. It is a small price to pay, but I am willing to do it.

b) If I won a book from your blog, I would be thrilled if you would send me an email here – alongtheway (at) telus (dot) net

c) The reason I want to win Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold is because I don’t have time to go and see the movie, and I prefer books anyways. I love to read, and I love to hold a book in my hands, smell the pages, and sometimes I even fall asleep with a book on my face. Pure ecstasy! I have an unopened audio version of this book, and did not crack open the package yet because I don’t have time to sit and listen to the 9 CD’s of 10.5 hours of narration. If I win this book, I will offer my audio book version as a giveaway on my blog … to one of my readers (and dear Shelby, maybe you will win and then I can send my audio book version back to you!!)

d) I love your post called “What is That?” http://shelbydupree.blogspot.com/2009/07/what-is-that.html

e) Why do I love this post? In the busy hustle and bustle of our lives, we need to be reminded how important it is to take the time for others. And this message hits me right between the eyes.

I just want to say what a generous and wonderful idea this is. I'm not in the market for any more books (my stack of un-read is teetering on dangerous) but good for you for sharing the "book love."

A girl can never have too many books, not even Miss Shelby Dupree. Pardon my raunchy language, but my daughters and I jokingly call ourselves "book whores" because we cannot pass up a good book. Ever. With this said, I would love to win one of your wonderful books. The Search For the Fair Land is the book of my choice if I were to win. (I think I have the title close to right), and that is because I find myself searching for fair lands also. I can be reached at paulaniz67(at)yahoo(dot)com.
I love Janet Ruth's comment about falling asleep with a book her face. I do that almost nightly.

Seek The Fair Land
(of course that means I need to read them all)

I haven't read nearly as much since I began blogging - and reading blogs. Well, I read blogs, but not as many books.

I'm trying to remember which one of your "1000" posts I have enjoyed the most. I remember the frog shaped ice lolly -- isn't that funny!

Good to see you still blogging strong. I've had so many distractions and lack of incentive. I think I'm stuck in neutral right now.

I just read the note you left for me in my blog (Mary Poppins in Heels) and have to thank you now, before another second passes. Thank you, Shelby! You brought a tear to my eye(granted, a touch of that might be from the massive amounts of tequila I drank last night and the minimal amounts of sleep that followed, but, hey, let's not ruin this nice moment) and have really given me a good kick in the pants.

I've been reading your blog and am happy to have found it! And you. I'm on my way back in...Thank you again.

And how cool that you're giving away your books!

Hi Shelby,

I'm visiting from fairy hedgehogs blog (he linked to you about your book giveaway). Like theycallmejane I'm not in the market for more books right now, I need to give away some of my own lol! But I like the look of your blog and I added myself as your 41st follower-- woo hoo! I look forward to reading more posts and following your writing journey!

cheers,

Karen

Oh gosh! I'd love a book. I have too many, as well, just bought a new shelf to house some of them, in fact, but I can never turn down more (and who, in their right mind, would?). You could find my e-mail address through my Blogger profile if you needed it. *wink* I'd love The Lovely Bones (though I see I've been beaten to that one), because I never gave Alice Sebold a second blance. Or glance, as it were. But yes, the movie trailer told me I was a bad, bad girl for it. And why not love all of the dozens of thousands of posts? Your blog is awesome, so I bet they are, too.

Goodness, I've gone wordy. Look at all that! ^ It's your fun blog, me thinks. :)

Ok let's see if I can remember all the rules.

I want to win.

You can email me at sharon(at)sharonkendrew(dot)com

I want to win The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski because out of all the books it was the one of the two I haven't heard of or read and it looked like a nice cover than House.

I loved your post "I am Ready" because I just recently posted about my lack of good book purchases and my need for recommendations. However if I hate the book that you so love, well then, I may not love this post anymore.

Shelby, great offer and I wish heartily that I could partake, but alas I am currently living across the ocean and in the same position as you: giving away books.

But I followed you. I will be back in the U. S. in not to long, so I'll have my ear to the ground if you make a similar offer in the future!
