I haven't read this book yet - but I will. It's titled Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford (his debut novel)...
Here's an author audio interview on NPR. Sounds fascinating really.

Hello Shelby,
I'm thrilled you came to visit me and enjoyed my music selections so much. It's so exciting for me to find so many of my favorites and plunk them onto my blog for all to sample. I fill my home and gardens with music -- sometimes with the music my children make (they play piano and harp). My life must have music!
I love your header photo. Clover is an underappreciated beauty in the gardens. Bees know a good thing when they see it!
This book title is so intriguing. Lately I think I checked into that very hotel! Today I awoke to a rainy Friday (some snow a bit higher up). A great day to bake some bread, sip tea, and enjoy the beauty all around. I guess you could say I have turned my cahir to face "Sweet" Street.
Thanks again for stopping by. A dear friend of mine lives in Miss. Your references made me homesick for a hug and some of her yummy-sticky-gooey desserts she calls "coffee cake." MMMmmmmm.
Hope I see you back at Wisteria and Roses. (I've added some new music -- fun child-like tunes of simple beauty). For now I'm off to check out this book -- so intriguing. : D
