Remember The Baldwin Sisters?

Remember "the recipe"? Remember John Boy and Waltons Mountain?

Well, I do. When I was little (9, 10 years old), one of my very favorite shows was The Waltons. John Boy was somebody I actually related to. Yes, at the age of 9, I was cosmically connected to a fictional young male adult in the roaring Depression. It is true though. I often think I was born in the wrong time.

Anyway, the recipe always fascinated me. This was the 'moonshine' recipe I guess, that the old Baldwin sisters (who lived in the community near the Waltons) had kept bountiful samples of - in their house. The recipe was always spoken of reverently, as if it was a precious heirloom. The old sisters treated it as if it was gold - and I guess it was in a way. I'm guessing that their father or someone in the family had made plenty of money running the moonshine - and this is where the sisters inherited their fortune from. Maybe I'd speak reverently of it too, although doubtful, since I grew up in a tee totaler home. And I mean Tee with a capital T (was is not always is).

- - -

Here, you can listen to a voice of the past speaking of life and all mankind. Grace to you.

A recipe of love - family, memories. I'm transported to all that is sacred.

The Waltons was one of my very favorite TV programs too. I loved the way they all said good night at the end of eachshow "Good night John Boy" Those Baldwin sisters were quite the characters. I wish they would make great programs like that today.

Loved this post. We remember the Baldwins... we're always perfecting our own "recipe" in the form of hard cider, heather mead, or some form of beer; holiday ale I believe is our next. Thanks for reminding of us of these two... our heroes in distillation.

My parents were "T's" too - not even a sip of wine at a wedding!

The Walton family was a part of my family all those years. I also related to John Boy.. Too bad the writing I do now is mostly done on a blog. *Sigh*

The sound clip almost brought a tear to my eyes as I was filled with remembering that show.. and that time.

Oh yes, I sure do remember the Baldwin Sisters and the Recipe. We were huge Walton fans, gathered around the tv with popcorn and Kool-aid on Waltons night. I always had a secret crush on Jim Bob myself. I still try to catch an episode here and there when I can.

We occasionally say 'good night john boy' around our house. There was something simple and magical about the Waltons.
